Sultan Palace Zanzibar
On the exotic and striking spice island of Zanzibar lies a Palace enveloped by tropical gardens imbued with exotic perfumed flora, colorful butterflies and soothing birdsong. Just steps from one of the most picturesque beaches on the island, the Sultan’s Palace offers a private and tranquil retreat amidst breathtaking natural beauty.
Restful and peaceful relaxation is the theme of this elegant beachfront retreat on Dongwe beach. Just fifteen cottages are scattered throughout the grounds and there is a beach bar and restaurant. Dinner is served by candlelight on the terraces of the Club House, and is a fusion of culinary delights influenced by the sea food and spices indigenous to the island. Dining on the cliff’s edge with the ocean lapping beneath you is a romantic and relaxing experience at Sultan’s Palace. Enjoy lazy days on the beach, a snorkeling or boat trip, which are offered to all guests. Also available nearby are sailing trips in the local dugout canoes through the spectacular Chwaka Bay mangroves, scuba diving, swimming with dolphins and guided nature walks in the Jozani Forest Reserve.
The bedrooms themselves are exceptionally large and the striking design is inspired by the Arabian influence in Zanzibar. Intricate wood carvings, colored lanterns and lavishly dressed beds swathed in mosquito netting lye behind spectacular Omanite doors and fashion an abode worthy of a Sultan! The detail of the furnishings is delightful and inspiring, ranging from indigenous woods to sculpted archways and expansive bathrooms with hand painted tiles.
Each of the shell shaped Garden and Ocean Rooms have air-conditioning and minibar. Six garden rooms are larger, while four ocean rooms afford spectacular sea views. There are five Imperial Suites, which are even larger and some of which afford direct access to the beach, private garden with hammock and inside two queen-size Zanzibari beds, a walk in wardrobe and twin showers and basins.
